All too often folks get caught up in the downward spiral of spending more money on their HiFi with the belief that they will get more from their music. Truth is that the music will still move you whether on a transistor radio or factory car stereo or ghetto blaster...
Yeah, I love Music and I love HiFi...but mostly I love simple HiFi and beautiful music...can I get an Amen!
Does simple HiFi have a dollar amount attached to it?
ReplyDeleteHow would you define it?
What do I mean when I say that "All too often folks get caught up in the downward spiral of spending more money on their HiFi with the belief that they will get more from their music"?
Do I mean that you should never consider an upgrade?
To me simple means less parts. Easy to operate very few frills and and that does not overwhelm a space. HiFi that is part of your living environment and not all of your living environment. That means simple can be very inexpensive or very, very expensive. Simple has no dollar tag attached to it. Simple means exacty that, simple.
By not getting caught up in the downward spiral of more money equals better HiFi, do I really mean to never upgrade. Of course not!
I think it does us good to remember a time in our lives when we just enjoyed music and we didn't have to be sitting in front of a stellar HiFi to do so. In fact most of still experience that, especially when we aren't focused on it. Do you find yourself tapping your foot at a restaurant when you can barely hear the music and it's coming over a P.A....I do.
So what I mean is to remember that the essence of the music is what counts and when selecting an audio system one might consider that value and remember that more money spent does not equal greater satisfaction.
Any thoughts...
Well I just spent money on a simple power cord...the Wire World Electra 52, and it brought my system up about 2 notches. Money well spent!

Wireworld is a brand that I hardly ever think of but should as they make some very high performing products.
ReplyDeleteHi Art, As I know you're into your Rega gear - I merely wanted to point out several tweaks for your table. (1) Groovetracer Reference Subplatter and Derlin Platter ( White or Black ) which makes a big improvement to the standard versions (2) Mr Lim's Dual Pulley and Aluminum Feet and Counterweight. I was trying to leave you the links to these articles, but for some reason either the site of the iPhone isn't allowing me to so you'll have to google search each, but there's talk on AudioKarma about the Derlin Platter. Just a heads up. Regards,Oscar
